Pupil Premium
Pupil premium is funding to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils.
The school receives funding for:
Pupils who are currently eligible for free school meals
Pupils who have been eligible for free school meals in the past 6 years
Pupils who have been adopted from care or who have left care
Pupils who are looked after by the local authority
The Pupil Premium Overview shows stakeholders how we support disadvantaged pupils at WSG and is based on the Education Endowment Foundation's tiered approach to using the pupil premium.
The Pupil Premium Strategy document below explains in detail what this funding is spent on in our school and how it improves the outcomes for disadvantaged children.

The strategy also includes the Recovery Premium Grant which is part of the government’s package of funding to support pupils whose education has been impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19). It is focused on pupil premium eligible pupils because of the additional impact of the pandemic on these students.
The National Tutoring Programme
The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) provides primary and secondary schools with funding to spend on targeted academic support, delivered by trained and experienced tutors and mentors.
State-funded schools will receive NTP funding over the course of the 2022 to 2023 academic year to deliver tuition to their pupils. It is intended to cover 60% of the unit cost of tuition, with schools targeting the tutoring offer towards their pupil premium (PP) cchildren.
The following documents outline how WSG is using the National Tutoring Programme to support the academic progress of children adversely affected by the pandemic lockdowns.
From April 2013, the government has provided each school with additional funding to help primary schools to improve the quality of sport and Physical Education for all children.
We use this funding to encourage children to be active and to enjoy sports. We aim to achieve this by improving confidence and expertise among staff, enabling the planning and delivery of high-quality PE lessons and to improve the fitness levels of all children. We also plan to give children the opportunity to try more unusual sports and the opportunity to take part in various sporting events.
For example to date, this has been spent on:
Buying new equipment and resources, including resources for athletics and gym
Active Surrey Conference and other training for teachers and teaching assistants
Transport costs to enable children to attend sports events
Intermediate Cricket Coaching
Supply cover for continuing professional development and staff release time
Subscription to the Youth Sport Trust
Surrey Outdoor Learning Training for pupils
Dance workshops
Athletics training
Special days to inspire the children
Leadership training for the children
Medals and trophies
Kit for children and staff
The impact is measured via:
Pupil attitudes and participation levels
Staff confidence in planning and delivery
Quality of planning and delivery
Use of resources and equipment
During the 2022-2023 academic year, WSG were allocated £18,120 in Sports Premium
Details of how this money was spent and the impact of the Sports Premium can be seen in the Sports Premium Strategy Document
