Our PTA

Hello and welcome to the WSG Parent Teacher Association 

We are a friendly group of parents from across the school who meet every half term to organise events, bring families together and raise money to support the school.

We are all part of the PTA when we join the school community, and we welcome everyone who would like to get involved.

Our goal this year

This year, our main fundraising focus is on improving the school's outdoor provision.

The areas being considered include:

  • Football rebounders and target nets

  • Outdoor musical instruments

  • Climbing walls and monkey bars

  • A gymnastics air track

Alongside fundraising for these larger projects, we will continue to support activities and resources that enrich the children's experience at school.

How we try to achieve our goals

We have moved away from repeated fundraising requests and towards a programme of family events that bring the school community together.

Our main family fundraiser this year will be a Fundraising Run in June. Other planned activities include:

  • Christmas Fair

  • School Disco

  • Camping nights for KS1 and KS2

  • Sports Day refreshments

  • House Music competition refreshments

  • Village fairs and community events

  • Other family and community events throughout the year

We recognise that family life is busy and many parents are time poor. At the start of each term we suggest a £10 donation per child to the PTA, which directly benefits children at the school and enables us to request less time and resources from our family community in our fundraising efforts.

We also work closely with the communities of Shamley Green, Blackheath and Wonersh to support village events and strengthen relationships between the local community and the school.

We are grateful to all the parents, families, local businesses and community groups who support our events, whether by volunteering, donating, providing prizes or simply coming along.

School Calendar

What we have achieved so far….

During the last year, the PTA was pleased to support the school with:

  • A significant contribution towards the Forest Lodge

  • iPads for classroom use, enabling each teacher to have a classroom device

  • New Year 1 outdoor resources

  • Additional Year 5 drumming classes

  • A World Book Day drama workshop

  • Planting resources, including donated planters and pots

We are also continuing to look at ways to support outdoor learning and the children's wider school experience.

Working with our local community

We value our relationships with local community organisations. We are exploring further work with Shamley Green Garden Club around low-maintenance planting in the school's outdoor spaces.

We hope that children in Years 3–6 will be involved in watering and caring for the planting, with Forest School incorporating planting into lessons where appropriate.

We also have opportunities for parents and carers to get involved in practical projects around the school.

Whether you can help with painting, jet washing, pruning, sweeping or other practical jobs, we appreciate any help.
