Wonersh and Shamley Green Church of England Primary School

A Learning Adventure with Kindness

  1. All about us

Our Head Teacher's Welcome

Wonersh and Shamley Green Church of England Primary School is a nurturing, inclusive community providing an excellent education for the children in our care. The school is set in idyllic natural surroundings with six acres of grounds in the beautiful Surrey Hills. We offer children a safe and secure learning environment, with wonderful woodlands nearby to explore. We love using our woodlands to learn forest skills and to support the wider curriculum. We see learning as an exciting adventure and everyone in our community as constantly learning.

First established at Wonersh in 1683, our school has a long tradition of providing a Christian education for local children.

As a Church of England school, we ensure that pupils develop an understanding of Christian faith and values and respect for others. This underpins all we do especially the care given to the children. We welcome the involvement of the wider Christian community and our links with local schools are very important to us.

The main school was built at Shamley Green in 1843, but since 2010 we have had a stunning new assembly and sports hall built, along with a new kitchen where our cook serves delicious, freshly made lunches.  In 2014 our expansion to primary included a new junior building with four classes and Arts and DT rooms. Since then our infant building has also been refurbished.

All the children experience nurturing relationships with staff and take part in an exciting, rich and creative curriculum. We encourage children to see themselves as "global citizens" through our links with schools in China, Nepal and Uganda and as local and national citizens through exciting projects and visits that broaden their understanding of the world around them.

We firmly believe in working in partnership with parents to provide a successful education for every child. Children come to our school from a number of local villages and there is a real sense of community amongst pupils and parents. We have an active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association who arrange social and fundraising events.

We are very happy and proud to show visitors around our school. Please contact the office to arrange a visit.

As one child expressed to a recent visitor to our school - "Everyone's welcome here!"
